The Future Report is a landmark youth research initiative, commissioned by Google and delivered by Livity in collaboration with expert partners, to elevate the voices of teenagers across Europe. It captures the insights, experiences and ideas of 7,000+ teens aged 13–18 and explores how young people engage with emerging technologies—especially AI—while navigating questions of learning, creativity, wellbeing, trust, and the future.
-
In elevating the voices of young people across Europe, The Future Report aims to inform policymakers, educators, technologists, and caregivers by offering an in-depth understanding of how technology is shaping teen lives.
-
The research combined large-scale quantitative data with in-depth qualitative research.
The quantitative survey was fielded among 1,000 teens in each country, with a total sample of 7,000+ participants aged 13-18 years old. The sample was representative of gender, socio-economic and regional demographies within the countries.
For the qualitative research, a total of 70 teens from Spain, France, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, Italy and Greece were recruited for focus groups. Two focus groups were conducted in each country, split by age into younger and older groups.
Participants were also required to complete creative tasks and questions on an online research platform. Examples of creative tasks included keeping a diary of when they used AI, designing a tech product that could solve an issue that affects society and more.
-
The age of the participants in the study ranged between 13 to 18 years. All participating teens were above the age of digital consent in their country:

Google invests in products, programmes and partnerships to support young people online. This starts with building age-appropriate experiences with default protections for young people, and tools like Family Link that provide flexible controls to manage screen time and content across devices.
Programmes like Be Internet Awesome and Meet LEO equip families with essential digital literacy and online safety skills. When it comes to helping people navigate AI, Google supports education programmes like Experience AI and Super Searchers, which foster critical engagement with AI and are delivered in partnership with civil society across Europe.
-
This report aims to elevate young people’s lived online experiences.
It highlights the need for a more youth-informed, human-first approach when it comes to building digital environments - ensuring the future of tech reflects the values, needs, and aspirations of young people today.
Only by working collaboratively can we continue to build a safer, more enriching digital future where all young people can thrive confidently. Our hope is that the Future Report will become a roadmap for tech companies, policymakers, civil society, educators, parents and young people to work together towards this goal.
